The Foundation works closely with the Parks and Recreation Department.
To meet the needs of the community, the Foundation solicits outside funding and hosts a variety of fund raisers to work toward the purpose. The Foundation is a non-profit organization with donations being tax deductible as allowed by law.
The Hoover Parks and Recreation Foundation continues to serve a significant role in the development of the Senior Center. The Foundation has raised more than $100,000 to furnish the entire facility. Recently, the City of Hoover in partnership with Hoover New Horizons and the Foundation has been responsible for completing the sun room enclosure and additional furnishings.
The Foundation raises and collects funds for a variety of areas including:
- Moss Rock Preserve
- The Senior Center
- Therapeutic Recreation Programs
- The Veteran’s Memorial Project
- Park additions such as tables and benches
Fund raising projects have included:
- Individual soliciting for the Senior Center Furnishings
- Annual Fishing Tournaments for the Therapeutic Program
- Seniors Concert by Three on a String
- PET-A-PALOOZA
- Peanut sales
- Birdies for Charities
- Municipal Madness
- Women-less Wedding
Foundation funds have been distributed for projects including:
- Furnishings at the Hoover Senior Center
- Supporting field trips for the Therapeutic Department
- Purchase and installation of Veterans’ Memorial Pavers
- City park benches, picnic tables and trash receptacles
- Grants to the qualified dog rescues in the local area
